From the moment you enter Saas Fee you are struck by it's beauty. Truly one of the world's most picturesque ski resorts it is a delightful Swiss "chocolate box" village. The resort is traffic free with cobbled streets and mazots (windowless huts built on stone legs used for storing grains and cheeses etc).
The ski area is high and snow-sure with one of the longest seasons in the Alps; the main ski area runs from November to May. Having said that, because of the glacier, the resort is open all year round with the exception of late May and early November when the lifts shut for maintenance. Summer skiing is popular in Saas Fee and you can often see international race teams sharpening their skills for the forthcoming season. Hence, Snowfinders clients have been visiting Saas Fee for a number of years for summer skiing as well as winter skiing.
Beginners are superbly catered for with a great selection of nursery slopes and blue runs funneling into the village edge. This makes Saas Fee ideal for young families, and the resort further attracts a high proportion of this demographic with it's family lift pass offer.
Intermediates are blessed with a great selection of red runs, some of which can be quite testing. There are some interesting black runs too. Mile hungry piste skiers may wish to look elsewhere but it's worth remembering that all of the 100km of piste are above 1800m and this means virtual guaranteed skiing. There are a further 50km of piste in the neighbouring villages of Saas Grund and Saas Almagel too, accessed by a short free bus ride if you upgrade to the area lift pass.
True experts may find the area limited but you can explore the off-piste in this region. It is worth noting that because of the highly glaciated area, it would be madness to venture off-piste without a LOCAL qualified guide here.
Saas Fee is a snowboarding mecca with a fantastic half pipe and funpark. The resort has enjoyed a reputation for a number of years now and boarders worldwide flock here for it's combination of great powder, superb piste care, and high altitude snow reliability.
