Sitting at one end of the 440km of slopes that make up the Milky Way ski area, Sauze d'Oulx is undoubtedly the largest and liveliest of the five villages of the Via Lattea. Once poorly perceived as a destination for British drinkers, it has successfully reinvented itself by aiming for the best of both worlds – maintaining its youthful energy and appeal while also increasing its appeal to families. This is not to say the resort has lost any of it's great value après and nightlife, with a huge array of options perfect for younger audiences looking to go long into the night.

The skiing options are equally huge, with something for everyone across the Milky Way. Really though this is an intermediates paradise, offering endless, perfectly groomed cruisy blues and reds. You'll struggle to run out of terrain to ski, with those seeking a real challenge often attempting to get to Claviére and Montgenèvre and back in a day! To top it off, the area has a reputation as a sun magnet, perched on a plateau to give it optimal exposure to the elements.

The main parts of the town are served by the Clotes chair or the Sportina, both of which can be a steep uphill walk from the accommodation. There is a resort bus service that is free with the lift pass.

The Via Lattea (Milky Way) lift pass covers not only next-door Sansicario and Sestriere, easily reached by lift and piste, but also the more remote slopes of Claviere and Montgenevre- more easily reached by road, but certainly possible on skis/board.
