With endless Italian charm, dramatic views and a substantial ski area, Madonna de Campiglio has a lot going for it for those seeking a classy Italian winter getaway.
Campiglio is a well-established, quite fashionable resort, set near the head of a heavily wooded valley. Although the clientele are mainly Italian, the resort is now attracting Russian visitors in considerable numbers. The town centre is car free and charming, laden with designer shops, high end restaraunt and lively apres options. Though the resort spreads out quite widely down the valleys, a bus service links these suburbs to the main resort area.
The slopes offer plenty of variety, and a satisfying sense of travel across considerable distances – particularly since a gondola built in 2011 created a long-awaited link with Pinzolo; it's an amazing 17km from Folgarida. From Madonna, you also have easy access to the slopes above the nearby Folgarida, Marilleva and Pinzolo. The resort does not sit at an especially high altitude, with the majority of the slopes tree lined and below 2100m. While this makes for attractive skiing during the high season, it does have an effect on snow conditions as spring arrives. The Skirama regional lift pass covers not only the several linked resorts but also others in the Val di Sole to the north, including Pejo and Passo Tonale.
