Very attractive French feel resort only 1hour 15 mins from Geneva airport. The main road bypasses the resort centre, making it virtually traffic free. The village is very different to a lot of the high altitude French resorts in that it is stunningly pretty, quaint, and a traditional alpine village.
Les Gets is extremely popular with families and the resort actively promotes itself as being family friendly. The village centre does appear to be a bit spread out but in actual fact most of the properties are not too far away from any of the village amenities and lifts. For those that may be a bit out in a limb, the Free Petit Road Train is a good way of getting around.
Les Gets is situated at one end of the massive Portes du Soleil ski area. It is true that it isn't central to the PDS but then again it doesnt suffer the bottlenecks that Morzine can sometimes have. If you want to ski the immediate area you will have 110kms of pisted runs including Morzine with much more in the neighbouring resorts of Avoriaz, Chatel, Les Crosets etc. This part of the Portes du Soleil has a reasonable amount of up to date lifts but there is still the odd lift that requires modernisation. The resort altitude of 1170 metres means that you don't need a huge amount of snow to cover the grassy slopes allied to the excellent artificial snow making capabilities. The low altitude doesn't cause too much of a problem in high season.
Beginners will love Les Gets for its excellent nursery slopes in the village and a good range of cruisy blues to progress to. The ski schools get excellent reports and there are many British instructors here too.
Intermediates will find plenty of good quality red and blue runs over on Mont Chery in addition to the main ski area.
Black run skiers will enjoy some of the steep pitches to the side of Mont Chery and find the bumps over there a real expert challenge. There are plenty of off-piste opportunities with the wooded areas as a particular favourite.
There is a large choice of ski schools in the area and the BASS (British Alpine Ski and Snowboard School) has had some excellent feed back from Snowfinders clients, with lessons described as "innovative and fun". The ESF ski school also has had many positive reviews.
