Les Arcs 1800

Arc 1800 is one of four villages above Bourg St Maurice, and lies within the tree line in the middle of the Les Arcs ski area. One would not describe 1800 as a pretty resort although it has been blended in well with its surroundings and is certainly not one of the ugliest of the high French resorts.

The accommodation is generally based on self catered apartments and hotels, and three chalets close to the resort.

The links to the ski area are excellent and there are five main lifts leaving the resort, the main one of which is the Transarc that takes passengers up to 2550 metres letting them explore the complete Arc 2000 and Arc 1950 area. From Arc 2000 the lifts up to the Aiguile Rouge at 3226 metres sees you at the highest point of the resort. From there the possibility of the entertaining and long run down to Villaroger at 1200 metres gives you 2026 metres vertical!!!

Beginners will enjoy 1800 and we think it probably has the best areas for this level of skier with the "ski tranquille" area with moving carpets. 

Intermediates will find that Les Arcs offers some of the best selection of varied runs anywhere in the Alps. It has the added benefit of the Vanoise Express that takes you over to La Plagne giving skiers a total area of 425kms of pisted runs between the two resorts.

Experts will enjoy a big variety of steep black runs throughout the Les Arcs ski area although a large amount of blacks here are left totally unpisted which makes for some seriously big moguls by the end of the season.

Apres ski

Of all of the Les Arcs, 1800 is probably the most animated with plenty of bars to keep everyone entertained with live music in many at the end of the day. Our favourite 1800 bar is the Jazz bar in the Hotel du Golf with good house band and big comfy sofas.

As with most ski resorts non skiers will find little to do. There is a bowling alley and ice skating at 1800, and a bus trip to 1600 sees you at the top of the Funicular for the trip down to Bourg St Maurice.
