La Plagne

La Plagne is made up of 11 villages ranging from the not so attractive and purpose built Aime 2100, to the quaint farming village of Montchavin. All of the villages are well connected by the lift system as well as the main ones being linked by a free bus service. There is a cable car that enables skiers to get across to ski the resort of Les Arcs, and so extending the ski area hugely.

The skiing is a paradise for intermediates with an amazing choice to suit all intermediate levels. One of our favourite runs is the "Tunnel" run from the top of the Roche de Mio at 2700 metres all the way down to Belle Plagne and then on to Plagne Bellecote. 

Beginners will find good nursery slopes in all areas, with 17 free lifts in the La Plagne ski area.There aren't many green runs, but alot of the blues are ideal for early skiers.

There are a few steep black runs for more advanced expert piste skiers and the resort is great for those that want to ski off-piste.

There is good skiing up at the glacier and if the snow is not so great, there is a selection of tree lined runs in which to shelter if the light deteriorates.

The higher villages are snow-sure but those lower down like Champagny, which has a lovely sunny position, can suffer later in the season.

One diversion well worth taking in is the Bobsleigh run built for the 1992 Olympics. You can choose a variety of ways down – the raft bob, the mono bob and the fastest of all the Taxi bob where you are in a real four man bob with a professional driver reaching speeds of 68mph and feeling forces of up to 3g.
