Lake Louise

Lake Louise is simply a stunning setting of tranquility and mother nature in harmony. From the pine covered mountains to the frozen lake across to the wall of ice that is the Victoria glacier – Lake Louise is like no other ski resort. The resort offers peace, calm and relaxation which for many is the  perfect antidote to the adrenalined high of a days skiing. 

The resort itself is little more than a collection of hotels, liquor store, and a petrol station; hardly sounds glamorous, but the reality is that it is a small tourist base in an astonishing location. The accommodation is positioned in the hamlet with the very impressive and Baronial styled Chateau Lake Louise residing in a lakeside setting away from the centre. 

The skiing at Lake Louise is sizeable by North American standards, covering over 4200 acres locally and totaling 7750 acres including Banff's two mountains. Being high and snow sure the white stuff is found in abundance with a mixture of tree lined trails and open snow bowls.  The skiing is located a short 5 minute bus ride away so this can put off guests obsessed with ski in ski out. However, we feel this isn't too much of a disadvantage as the buses are very civilised and it's quite a relaxing way to do things, it's all part of the laid back experience that Lake Louise offers.

Beginners start on the nursery slope facility and can then progress to the Ski-slow area that is patrolled against speeding skiers and boarders. There are numerous green runs to progress to from the Top of the World and Grizzly chairs. From the Grizzly chair beginners will be able to access a green on the back side that snakes around through Temple Lodge and then back into the pine tree lined run towards the Lodge of Peaks and the base station. The ski school in Lake Louise should not go without mention for its patient, kind, and fun approach for novices.

Intermediates will love to chance their arm (and legs) on the world cup runs, blacks but great fast fun. The unpisted powder bowls will provide good levels of challenges for intermediates keen to hone their skills and advance themselves too. 

Advanced skiers will want to hit the 2500acre of back bowls located in Lake Lou. It's a powder haven and great place for challenges ranging from glade skiing to open bowls, to moguls, to chutes and gullies, to natural hits. Add the terrain park into the equation and Lake Louise has it all.

Heli-skiing and excursions to Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village, Kicking Horse, Fernie, and Panorama are all possible too.
